Living the Dream

I have made a big, terrifying, exhilarating, life-altering decision.

I gave notice at my job. “Job” is doing paperwork at a big academic institution here in the bay area. I’ve learned several things during my year here. 1.) I hate doing paperwork. 2.) I love teaching, research and writing. 3.) I know what I want to do. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do, but been too scared to really pursue.

So, what next? I’m going to pursue dance, music and theater. I love teaching. I love performing. I love choreographing. I love researching. I love writing. Is this practical? No. Am I going to make it work? Yes.

I have a plan, but I’ll spare the gory details. (At least for now…)

Your very own radio

If you haven’t already checked it out, go to pandora. You give them an artist or a song (or multiple artists and songs), they analyze it and play music that’s similar. If you don’t like a song, you give it a thumbs down and skip it. It’s a great way to find new bands, or listen to stuff that you can’t quite justify owning. It’s also great for those moments when you know what type of music mood you’re in, but you don’t want to actually choose the specific music.

What was that song again?

You know, the song that goes nah nah na-na-na, naaah… Now you can find out, just by tapping the rhythm with your space bar.

Go listen to music.

BAM is going to be having a lot of Glass going on — first this week, October 4th, Orion, comissioned for the 2004 Summer Olympics. Glass will play keyboards amid a nationally eccletic group of instruments.
If you miss that, then don’t miss the world premiere of Symphony Number 8, on November 2, 4 or 5, also at BAM.
If you want something with guitar, go to the USE show at Knitting Factory on October 7th.
